Koinonia Cooperative Home School is an educational ministry of Koinonia Farm which cooperatively provides a Christian–based educational enrichment experience for students living at Koinonia and in the larger community.

Cooperative tutors, parents, and community members facilitate the learning journey through daily exercises in academics, life skills, service, and play, using each child’s interests and aptitudes as a starting point.  Georgia’s standards of education are applied to academics and each child is expected to meet or exceed these standards.  The children are involved in the daily life of the Koinonia Community through shared mealtime, devotions, play activities and service projects.

Tutors and parents are models, demonstrating the values, attitudes, beliefs and choices that reflect those of the Christian-based organization for which they will tutor.  Tutors and parents focus on developing relationships with students which motivate students to develop respect for all, a love of learning and a desire to serve.

We believe the best way for children to learn is to do it naturally.  By choosing curriculum and life skills classes according to the aptitudes and interests of the children, we stimulate within each student the desire to know more, to challenge themselves, and to follow their passions.  Emphasis is placed on learning in multi-age groups, playing cooperatively and competitively, and serving in a variety of relationship-building settings.

Parents and the Cooperative Coordinator work together to choose curriculum for the students.  The learning styles and current learning level of each student is taken into consideration when choosing materials.  While a standard grading system is not used, the progress of each student is closely monitored.  Students are allowed to progress at their own pace, naturally. Standardized testing is available for families who choose to take advantage of it.
